Chain Sling
The chain sling is a basic tool for moving a variety of materials. The chain's flexibility allows the sling to carry several differently shaped loads without having to reconfigure or change the attachment between loads.

The typical chain sling has one to four chains terminating in a hook that latches onto the load. Adjustable chain slings have a short chain terminating in a hook in which a longer chain may be attached at any link, creating a loop. A basket chain sling has one or two permanent loops while the endless basket chain sling has a master ring passing through one or two chain loops that carry the load.

A number of hooks are available for the chain slings, but most fall within the category of slip hook or grab hook. Slip hooks attach directly to the load. Grab Hooks hold a chain link, usually forming a loop of chain to carry a load. Contact us for a detailed list of chain sling attachments.

Chain Options for Hoists

Century Cranes & Services Ltd. supplies three choices of forged products for use with a chain sling, hoist or to secure a load. The chains come in steel for typical uses or stainless steel and plated chain/wire rope for hazardous environments. Roller Chain
Roller chain is similar to a bicycle chain. It's primary use is in light and medium duty applications for a hoist. Roller chain has the advantage of reducing noise while the hoist is in operation, making for a quieter work place.

Link Chain
Link chain is for heavier loads and repeat-lifting cycles. The links of welded carbon or alloy steel are engineered for strength and durability. The links are of a uniform size and shape to resist uneven wear and to handle the stress from impacts and jolts during regular use.

Wire Rope
While not a chain product, the wire rope performs the same task and is included here. The wire rope is a group of woven metal strands made into a thin sturdy 'rope' for severe, heavy and normal duty purposes. The strands are woven according to different mathematical formulas to ensure their strength and durability. The wire rope hoist configuration is essentially the same in the one tonne to 25 tonne capacity unit.
